IQ TEST

Intelligence quotient is strictly correlated with the results students get in schools. American-based research proved that students who had IQ test results above 120 points achieved much higher average marks than students whose intelligence was average or low. There was no significant difference noticed between highly intelligent (120-140) and exceptionally capable (above 140) students.

orangeThe intelligence of a human is highly related to his lifestyle and nutritional habits. On average, meat eaters get IQ results lower than vegetarians by two points. Another thing that can’t be ignored is the frequency of alcohol consumption. People who drink more than four glasses of wine per week have their IQ lower by seven points on average than teetotalers. Is this caused by alcohol’s devastating influence on nerve cells? Quite possible.

Working out also has a visible effect on how our brain functions. It’s because of the strict relation between physical condition and intellectual capabilities. A properly oxygenated brain is much more efficient, which is why morning jogging or gymnastics helps to focus on learning or headwork much better than coffee or energizers.

Average IQ in Australia is 98
A ranking was made for average IQ results for different countries. Australia is 19th with average result of 98 points, and shares this distinction with France, Norway and United States. First place belongs to Hong Kong, with average IQ of 107. South Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Singapore follow. Scientists suspect that their results are largely because of local work ethics, which makes people living in those countries spend much more time on school and studying than anywhere else in the world.

The most intelligent 2% of world’s population belong to Mensa. To become a member, one has to score at least 130 points in a standard IQ test on Wechsler scale. Mensa was founded in 1946 by two lawyers – Lancelot Ware from USA and Roland Berrill from Australia. Nowadays, Mensa has over 100 thousand members in 40 countries. As for local departments of Mensa, the American one is the most numerous; Australian Mensa has about 1100 members. The word “mensa” is latin for “table” (a table can be found in Mensa’s official logo as well).
